These cement silos in the old port of Montreal were built in the 1940s to store barley used to produce malt. In the 1980's they were sold to Quonta Holding Ltd. to store soya and corn. When the Canadian National Railways stopped its rail line service to factories in this area, the building became abandonned in 1989 and is now protected as part of the Lachine Canal National Historic Site.
