This site in Longueuil, Québec first saw the construction of a castle in 1695, which was destroyed in 1792. The church of Saint-Antoine was built on the ruins of the castle in 1810, and the Co-Cathédrale Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue replaced the church in 1885. 

A century later, this striking Gothic Revival building is recognized as a historic monument by the Quebec ministry of culture and communications.
